Academic 101: Freshmen Survival Guide
University academics differ significantly from secondary school. Here are the core academic frameworks you need to succeed at ECUSTA.
Understanding ECTS Credits
ECUSTA follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). 1 ECTS represents 25–30 hours of total student workload (lectures, labs, independent study).
80% Mandatory Attendance
Attendance is strictly monitored. Students who fall below 80% attendance in lectures or clinical/laboratory modules are ineligible to sit for final semester examinations.
Grading & CGPA Standards
Letter grades (A+ to F) carry grade points on a 4.0 scale. To remain in good academic standing, an undergraduate student must maintain a minimum Cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.00.
Faculty Office Hours
Every professor and teaching assistant holds designated weekly consultation hours. Don't wait until exam week to ask questions—reach out early.
Campus Facilities & Student Living
ECUSTA provides a serene, enclosed, and secure learning campus in southern Addis Ababa with modern academic, health, and social facilities.
