Nursing Competency Enhancement Program (NCEP)

A structured, competency-based educational framework strengthening clinical skills, patient safety, and professional capabilities for practicing nurses across Ethiopia.

National Clinical Framework

Overview

The Nursing Competency Enhancement Program (NCEP) is a structured, competency-based educational framework designed to strengthen the clinical skills and professional capabilities of practicing nurses across Ethiopia.

In response to national healthcare priorities, NCEP bridges advanced academic concepts with intensive bedside practice. Trainees develop mastery across critical clinical domains, patient safety standards, emergency interventions, and ethical patient-centered communication.

Theory & Evidence

Classroom Instruction

Advanced theoretical foundation and evidence-based clinical practice delivered by senior medical and nursing faculty.

High-Fidelity Simulation

Simulation-Based Education

Risk-free, high-fidelity scenario training recreating urgent clinical situations in controlled simulation environments.

Procedural Drills

Skills Laboratory Practice

Hands-on procedural mastery utilizing medical mannequins, specialized simulation units, and clinical workstations.

Clinical Immersion

Supervised Workplace Learning

Real-world clinical application and evaluation on patient wards at partner tertiary referral hospitals.

National Governance & Consortium

Program Organization & Leadership

NCEP is a national initiative led by the Federal Ministry of Health (MoH) Ethiopia in direct partnership with three designated tertiary academic institutions:

Partner 01

ECUSTA Higher Learning Institute

Host Academic Institution & Skills Lab Center

Delivering academic curriculum, simulation modules, and clinical skill lab drills for 36 selected practicing nurses.

Partner 02

St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College

Designated Tertiary Academic Partner

National clinical training and tertiary healthcare delivery collaboration.

Partner 03

Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH)

Designated Tertiary Academic Partner

Specialized clinical instruction and high-complexity hospital care training.

Institutional Mandate

The Role of ECUSTA Higher Learning Institute

As one of the three primary host institutions selected by the Ministry of Health, ECUSTA drives the execution of the program by managing the end-to-end training pipeline for its assigned national cohort:

Host Academic Institution
